OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the effectiveness and results of the Acceleration Plan in reducing maternal mortality rates in Bolívar, through the implementation of strategic and operational sectoral and intersectoral actions, adopting a gender and intercultural approach in the Department of Bolivar.

METHODS: A descriptive analysis of the results and impact of the Acceleration Plan for Maternal Mortality Reduction in the Department of Bolívar, Colombia, from 2020 to 2023. This approach included collecting data on maternal mortality rates, analyzing trends over time, and evaluating the effectiveness of various interventions under the plan. The analysis also considered factors such as healthcare access, quality of medical services, and community health education to understand their influence on the observed outcomes.

RESULTS: The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in Bolívar from 2020 to 2023, with both the number of cases and the ratio per 100,000 live births for each year. There's a decreasing trend in both the number of cases and the MMR. In 2020, there were 11 cases with a ratio of 67.4, which rose in 2021 to 14 cases and an 84.8 ratio. In 2022, the cases remained at 14, but the ratio slightly decreased to 76.8. A significant improvement is seen in 2023, with cases dropping to 8 and the ratio reducing to 47.8.

CONCLUSIONS: The decline in maternal mortality rates in Bolívar from 2020 to 2023 is indicative of the effective strategies put in place since March 2023. These measures, geared towards promoting sexual and reproductive autonomy and intercultural and gender-sensitive approaches to reproductive health, have been instrumental in enhancing the overall maternal-perinatal healthcare access. Focused efforts on managing obstetric and neonatal emergencies, alongside robust information and communication initiatives to bolster maternal and neonatal health, have been pivotal. The positive correlation between these interventions and the improved maternal health outcomes is clear evidence of their success.
