OBJECTIVES: Accessing information on health technology assessment (HTA) in Brazil currently requires navigating multiple individual data sources. We aim to present the Brazilian HTA Database, an online platform indexing HTA studies focused on the Brazilian context.
METHODS: We identified scientific journals and conference abstract containing Brazilian HTA publications and manually extracted relevant information: title, authors, publication year, abstract, keywords, access link, and digital object identifier (DOI). Titles, abstracts, and keywords were translated into English or Portuguese using artificial intelligence. The Brazilian HTA Database was developed using WordPress with SearchWP plugin.
RESULTS: The database is hosted at https://htadata.com. Access is available under individual registration, being free to use for non-commercial purposes. The database currently aggregates over 4,500 documents from a variety of sources - ISPOR, HTAi, Comissão Nacional de Incorporação de Tecnologias no Sistema Único de Saúde (CONITEC), Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar (ANS), Rede Brasileira de Avaliação de Tecnologias em Saúde (REBRATS), and local scientific journals. HTA reports, systematic reviews of the literature and cost-effectiveness studies are the predominant documents indexed in the database. Currently, main users registered are from HTA centers of hospitals and universities and pharmaceutical companies in Brazil.
CONCLUSIONS: The Brazilian HTA Database, freely available for non-commercial use, streamlines access to HTA information relevant to the Brazilian context, providing bilingual, systematic, and centralized access to Brazilian HTA studies. This initiative highlights the importance of making local HTA information accessible, especially given that many studies relevant to national decision-making are not published in indexed journals, although they hold critical value in shaping health policies. The Brazilian HTA Database serves as a model that can be replicated in other contexts to improve access to region-specific evidence, fostering more informed and equitable health technology assessment globally.
