Learn to use R for transparent, efficient health economic modeling

This practical course is designed for health economists and analysts familiar with Excel who want to transition to R for health economic modeling. It highlights the advantages of R in transparency, reproducibility, and computational efficiency.

Technical topics include:

  • Introduction to R for health economic modeling in HEOR contexts.

  • Building and analyzing Markov models, including deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses.

  • Estimating expected value of perfect information (EVPI).

  • Overview of useful R packages for modeling.

This course includes tools and concepts that can be immediately applied, including:

  • Hands-on exercises and real-world examples guided by experts from academia, HTA agencies (e.g., NICE, NCPE), and industry.

  • Access to model templates and resources for continued learning.

This course is designed for those with some familiarity with modelling techniques, such as the concepts of discrete time cohort Markov models and probabilistic sensitivity analysis, but familiarity with R coding is not required. Attendees will require a laptop with RStudio (v1.1.0 or higher) and R (v4.2.1 or higher) downloaded and installed.

This short course is offered in-person at the ISPOR Europe 2024 conference.
