The webinar will provide an overview of past and current efforts in health equity, its role in health outcomes research, and its future implications in the field. The speakers will discuss information on what health equity data and methodologies are currently being used and significant gaps in knowledge pertaining to health equity research. The speakers will also discuss the potential difficulties that health equity researchers face, how to approach these challenges, and future directions from the academia and non-profit research organization perspectives. More specifically, Shainur Premji will provide an overview of health equity, DCEA methods, and the academic perspective. Next, Melanie Whittington will present key findings and recommendations from ICER’s recent initiative to evaluate health technology assessment methods that support health equity. Stacey Kowal will introduce the ISPOR Health Equity Research SIG, briefly explain some of the SIG’s activities (with accompanying introduction to equity concepts) and will outline how students can get involved. Attendees will also be invited to submit questions for the panel.

Learning Objectives

• Identify methodologies and data currently used in health equity research.
• Equip researchers of all levels with the understanding they need to address health equity in healthcare decisions and HEOR (including economic evaluations and evidence synthesis.)
• Advise researchers on how to address potential challenges in health equity research.
