Objectives: The aim of our study is to assess the relationship between physical activity, sleep disturbance and asthma management among asthma sufferers and to assess quality of life in terms of physical activity. Methods: Our quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted between 2020 and 2021. Non-randomised convenience sampling was used to target young people aged 14-18 years who had been diagnosed with bronchial asthma by their doctor for at least 1 year. Exclusion criterias were the presence of chronic diseases (disability, cystic fibrosis, renal failure, congenital cardiac abnormality, immune deficiency, rheumatological disease, mental or neurological problem) and incorrect completion of the questionnaire (n=105). Our data collection method was a questionnaire with the main questions being: socio-demographic data, physical activity, symptoms, sleep disturbance, asthma severity. We used miniAQLQ to assess quality of life. Statistical tests were performed with Microsoft Excel 2016 and SPSS v 24, descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum), two-sample t-test, Chi-square test (p>0.05) were used for data analysis. Results: Average age of respondents 16±1.51, 38% males, 62% females. We found no significant difference between physical activity and frequency of seizures, sleep disturbances (p>0.05). There is a significant difference between gender and symptoms increased by intense physical activity (p=0.02). Those who actively participated in physical education classes showed significantly more severe asthma according to our results (p=0.021). There was a significant association between moderate-, social- and school activities and physical activity (p<0.05). Conclusions: Health education and helping young people with asthma to choose a career and recommending different sports may be an appropriate method in the work of the nurse to reduce the frequency of attacks.
