ISPOR Europe 2018 Drew the Society’s Largest Audience To Date With More Than 5000 Healthcare Stakeholders in Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona, Spain—November 15, 2018—
ISPOR Europe 2018 concluded yesterday in Barcelona, Spain with record attendance. The Society had 5507 total attendees register for the event—the largest for any of its conferences to date. ISPOR Europe is organized by
ISPOR—the professional society for health economics and outcomes research (HEOR)—and is the leading HEOR conference in the region.
ISPOR Europe 2018 attendees include a wide variety of healthcare stakeholders, including researchers and academicians, assessors and regulators, payers and policy makers, the life sciences industry, and patient engagement organizations. The conference theme centered on “New Perspectives for Improving 21st Century Health Systems.”
Program co-chairs included Sarah Garner, PhD, World Health Organization, Switzerland; Zoltán Kaló, PhD, Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary; and Guillem López-Casasnovas, PhD, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Spain.
Highlights from the ISPOR Europe 2018 program included:
Plenary 1: “
Joint Assessment of Relative Effectiveness: ‘Trick or Treat’ for Decision Makers in EU Member States”This session was held on Monday, 12 November 2018 and the panel discussed the European Commission’s draft regulation on health technology assessment (HTA) that proposes the introduction of a Europe-wide joint clinical assessment.
Plenary 2: “
Pharmaceutical Pricing: The Many Faces of Fairness” This session was held on Tuesday, 13 November 2018 with the panel focused on defining “fair” in the context of pharmaceutical pricing in the context of the World Health Organization’s first Fair Pricing Forum held in 2017.
Plenary 3: “
Budget Impact and Expenditure Caps: Potential or Pitfall?” This session was held Wednesday, 14 November 2018 and featured discussions on the benefits and challenges of controlling the budget impact of health policies by implementing financial caps in Europe.
ISPOR Europe 2018 also featured sessions on
artificial intelligence in healthcare,
creating the “next” healthcare system,
medical devices and European Union policy,
pricing approaches and universal health coverage,
how patient engagement is transforming healthcare,
how a healthcare “cure” can be valued,
ISPOR’s HEOR Competencies Framework™, and
challenges to open science in HEOR.
A number of awards were presented at the conference, including the Society’s
Outstanding Chapter Awards. The conference also featured the Society’s renowned
Essential HEOR Education curriculum of half- and full-day
short courses on 10-11 November 2018.
