PURPOSE:
Comprehensive assessment of innovations at the earliest stages may help entrepreneurs, healthcare providers, payers, policymakers and researchers to prepare for implementation and reimbursement. This workshop aims to inspire and inform these stakeholders by sharing HI-NL’s best practice approach, learnings and recommendations, followed by a collaborative “writings-on-the-wall” exercise to co-create ideas for boosting the value of medical device innovation in Europe.DESCRIPTION:
Medical device development is rapidly accelerating, with many devices holding the promise of improving healthcare. However, that promise is too often hampered by the challenging process of getting innovations into valuable use. This is caused by healthcare system complexity, technology-driven development, and a lack of clarity about requirements from various stakeholders. To make medical device development more value-driven and efficient, the nationwide public-private infrastructure “HI-NL” was launched by the Dutch Ministry of Health in 2020. All relevant stakeholders involved in the medical technology innovation process are brought together to share their views and insights on a specific innovation. Patients, healthcare providers, methodologists, CE-experts, entrepreneurs, insurers, investors, and regulators participate in a “Round Table” innovation assessment, to bring safe, accurate and cost-effective medical devices to the right users faster.
