Chapter Activities and Udpates:
COVID-19 in Uruguay
Dr Alarico Rodriguez
HEOR Expert
Since the declaration of the Health Emergency in Uruguay and the application of social distancing measures (suspension of classes, shows, sports and religious activities, closing of borders, etc.). 5727 tests (rt-PCR) have been performed, of which 424 were positive: 7 deceased, 150 recovered and 267 active (18 in special care). Of the positives, 59 correspond to health personnel.
Although the population's compliance with the physical distance measures has been high, there is a perception that the low number of tests carried out is the determinant of the low number of infected registered (12 out of 100,000 inhabitants.).
According to the operational capacity of the national laboratories, as well as the availability of reagents, the government planned to carry out 1000 daily tests for the week of April 6, however, on Monday and Tuesday 252 tests were carried out daily on average.
The cause is attributed to the lack of definitions regarding criteria and costs, as well as the unavailability of inorganic fiber swabs and means of transportation.
