Apply practical techniques to review, validate, and adapt R-based health economic models
This course introduces practical approaches for reviewing, validating, and modifying health economic models developed in R. Using a Markov cost-effectiveness model in atrial fibrillation as a case study, participants learn how to execute, evaluate, validate, and adapt existing models for health technology assessment (HTA), reimbursement submissions, and research applications. The course also explores how artificial intelligence can support model validation while emphasizing best practices for transparent and reproducible analyses.
Technical topics include:
- Foundations of decision modelling and reproducible workflows in R
- Best practices for R code quality, organization, and documentation
- Manual validation techniques, including extreme-value and unit testing
- AI-assisted approaches for validating health economic models
This course includes tools and concepts that can be immediately applied, including:
- Executing and interpreting an existing Markov cost-effectiveness model in R
- Reviewing and assessing R code developed by other analysts
- Applying manual and AI-assisted validation methods to identify model issues
- Modifying model parameters and assumptions to conduct sensitivity and scenario analyses
