Understand and apply managed entry agreements (MEAs) in challenging economic settings

This course is designed for healthcare professionals—including public decision-makers, academic researchers, and industry stakeholders—involved in pricing and reimbursement decisions. It offers a practical introduction to the role of managed entry agreements (MEAs) in facilitating access to innovative medicines, particularly in countries facing economic constraints and using explicit cost-effectiveness thresholds.

Technical topics include:

  • Overview of pricing and reimbursement systems in selected countries and the rationale for using MEAs.

  • Introduction to the structure, purpose, and types of MEAs.

  • Economic modeling techniques for incorporating MEAs into cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses.

  • Use of decision algorithms to support value-based pricing and reimbursement decisions.

  • Discussion of MEA applications in Central and Eastern European (CEE) healthcare systems.

This course includes tools and concepts that can be immediately applied, including:

  • Step-by-step walkthrough of a pragmatic case study involving a high-cost oncology product.

  • Hands-on exercises using economic models of increasing complexity to simulate MEA scenarios.

  • Practical insights into selecting appropriate MEA structures for real-world decision-making.

  • A decision-making tool to help evaluate trade-offs and guide evidence-based policy in resource-constrained environments.

Participants who wish to gain hands-on experience must bring their laptops with Microsoft Excel for Windows installed.
