Making the Investment Case for Mental Health in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Abstract

We read with concern a Policy Perspective published in your journal entitled “The Shortfalls of Mental Health Compartment Models: A Call to Improve Mental Health Investment Cases in Developing Countries” by Mostert et al (Volume 41, pp 48-53). The perspective purports to demonstrate that such models “produce irrelevant outcomes that are not helpful for clinical settings” and concludes that “estimated results cannot be used to guide service provision, research, and mental health programming comprehensively.”
