Averting Cancer: The Economic Case for Expanding HPV Vaccination

Abstract

I have come across the study entitled “Cost-Utility Analysis of Expanding Human Papillomavirus Vaccination to Adult Women in Indonesia: A Markov Model Approach,” by Hidayati, Endarti, and Setiawan. The study’s significance and scientific contribution come from using the technique of a Markov model to show how cost-effective it is to vaccinate adult Indonesian women against HPV in addition to adolescents.

A more comprehensive vaccination program might be an effective use of public health resources because it can lower the incidence of cervical cancer being a wise financial investment, according to this thorough, model-based approach. It shifts the discussion from the vaccine’s clinical effectiveness to its economic worth, which is essential for guiding public health policy in environments with limited resources.
