Establishing the Groundwork for Future Research Into Adherence Measurement for Patients With HIV/AIDS

Abstract

We would like to comment on “Psychometric Measurements of the Adherence to Refills and Medication Scales Among Patients With HIV/AIDS in Indonesia.” The objective of this study was to assess the psychometric validity of the Medication Refill and Response Scale (ARMS) among HIV/AIDS patients in Indonesia. The study evaluated the ARMS’s content validity, construct validity, and reliability using a systematic approach that included 11 experts for content validity and 240 participants for construct validity. The results showed that participants found the ARMS to be straightforward and relevant, with a high content validity score. Two items were altered to increase comprehension, and confirmatory factor analysis revealed 2 important subscales: medication adherence and response to prescription refill. The reliability indicators showed strong internal consistency and test-retest reliability, indicating that the scale is useful at measuring adherence in this population.
