This introductory course offers a practical overview of generative AI tools and their applications in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), with a focus on how to access and apply LLMs beyond basic chatbot use.

Technical Topics Include:

  • Understanding generative AI and large language models (LLMs)

  • Accessing LLMs for research beyond chatbot interfaces

  • Prompt engineering for scientific HEOR applications

  • Privacy and security considerations when using Gen AI

  • Applying AI to:

    • Systematic literature reviews (SLRs)

    • Real-world evidence (RWE) analysis

    • Economic evaluations

This Course Offers Practical Tools You Can Use Immediately:

  • Step-by-step AI workflows using Python

  • Hands-on exercises for real-world HEOR tasks

  • Guidance on safely and effectively integrating Gen AI into your research

Participants who wish to gain hands-on experience are required to bring their laptops with Python installed.

PREREQUISITES: Students should have a general understanding of common HEOR concepts such as SLRs and cost-effectiveness models. Knowledge of Python or similar programming languages such as R is considered a benefit, but not required.
