Recent U.S. drug pricing reforms are fostering greater integration between domestic and international markets. International Reference Pricing (IRP), an established feature of reimbursement frameworks in Europe and other regions, is assuming increased prominence in the U.S. context. Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) policies introduce policy mechanisms by aligning U.S. price levels with ex-U.S. price levels, thereby incorporating the United States into broader IRP frameworks and intensifying cross-market pricing relationships.
This session will provide market access and pricing leaders and HEOR experts with an educational overview of these U.S.-centered developments. Participants will obtain a comprehensive understanding of how MFN reforms are influencing overall pricing structures, net pricing, and international pricing interactions, based on current policy discussions and observed market dynamics.
Agenda:
- Opening: Topic framing and speaker intros (5 min) Moderator outlines the timeliness of MFN-IRP convergence and introduces speakers, previewing U.S.-centric developments.
- Deep-dive expert talks
- IRP fundamentals and U.S. linkages (10 min) Exploration of IRP mechanics, including cross-border price benchmarking by payers, and U.S. implications via data transparency and negotiation spillovers.
- Evolving MFN policies and models – what does research say? (10 min) Overview of active MFN-style policies, highlighting examples from publicly available policy proposals and implemented programs, and early research signals showing unintended consequences of mandatory IRP.
