OBJECTIVES

Recently, apps are being used to promote, manage and provide medical and healthcare education. By the way, the mobile phone is used to support healthcare and public health interventions, also are a useful and easy method for collection of data for healthcare research. In addition, apps have shown successful use of support telemedicine and remote healthcare in developing nations. This study aims to assess the prevalence of multiple diseases in patients monitored by a mobile phone app health care program.

METHODS

The mobile phone app health care program is available for Android and IOS system, patients followed up is done through a specialized telephone monitoring center, made up of a physician, nurses, nutritionists, and psychologists, which provide constant monitoring and guidance health actions. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at February 2019. After data cleaning, 2011 patients were considered to this analysis. All information provided about disease was a patient self reported information.

RESULTS

Female patients represents 76% off the total. Obesity was the most prevalent disease, affecting 31,2% of total patients (23,6% female and 7,6% male). Hypertension was the second most prevalent disease, affecting 28,4% of total patients (18,3% female and 10,1% male), followed by, depression (19,7% of total: 15,7% female and 4,0% male), diabetes (16,9% of total: 12,5% female and 4,4% male) and dyslipidemia (12,6% of total: 9,1% female and 3,4% male). Rheumatism and cancer represents 9,9% and 6,4% of total disease reported.

CONCLUSIONS

The results of this study, considering the useful and easy method (mobile phone app health care program) for collection data can facilitate and improve the way of diseases management. For that reason, it could be used to support healthcare and public health interventions.
