OBJECTIVES: To investigate the change quality of life and wellbeing in children with bronchial asthma (BA). METHODS: For estimation quality of life we used "Childhood questionnaires" (1991-1995) by A. West, D. French, adapted for Russian by V. Petrov and I. Smolenov (1996-1998). In child's municipal asthma-centre questionnaire was conducted in 264 children with BA and 55 children without this disease, age from 4 to 16. RESULTS of questionnaire was showed considerable decreasing quality of daily life in children (4-7 years old) mainly in severe and middle severe asthma (30,1 against 36,1 marks in healthy patient (p<0,01) and 36,75 in patient with mild asthma). Increasing of distress degree was defined in all age groups. In children 4-7 years old with mild asthma the distress mark was 11,75; in middle severe - 12,5; in children 8-11 years old - 21,4 and 24,89 marks - high distress mark. Analogous increasing distress marks with worsening asthma was revealed in children 12-16 years old (38,5 marks in mild BA; 45,07 - in middle severe; 49,5 - in severe BA). Quality of daily life in children 4-7 years old and active life in children 8-11 years old in mild BA did not differ comparing with healthy children (36,75 against 35,9 marks and 30,16 against 29,71 marks conformably) but decreased with worsening disease (30,1 and 26,77 in middle severe and severe BA). Mild and middle severe BA impacted on quality of child's life a little but severe BA restricted child's life considerably (19,23-20,25 and 16,2 marks conformably). CONCLUSION: Analysis was revealed considerable decreasing quality of life in children with BA, restriction in physical, psychoemotional and social sphere of life. Questionnaire adapted by V. Petrov and I. Smolenov was exact that is why this wellbeing questionnaire was able to used such criterion of treatment effectiveness in children with BA.
