THE PATIENT JOURNEY OF MEN WITH LOCALISED PROSTATE CANCER- RESULTS FROM A QUALITATIVE STUDY IN GREECE

OBJECTIVES: To depict the journey of prostate cancer patients from the first symptom to diagnosis and treatment and to identify the emotional aspects of their journey. METHODS: A qualitative study was performed during August – November 2017, using a semi-structured interview guide. Men with confirmed diagnosis of localized prostate Ca after 2015, who had completed treatment were eligible to participate. Participants were recruited through public and private hospital urology clinics in Attica, Greece. The interviews were recorded after participants' written consent, transcribed and content analyzed. RESULTS: CONCLUSIONS: Delays and complexities in the patient journey were observed mainly in the time interval until the diagnosis of prostate Ca. Both the disease and its treatment had a significant physical and emotional impact on the participants.
