OBJECTIVES: This study explores the burden of Hyperglycemia In Pregnancy (HIP) in Indonesian women using contemporary healthcare records. METHODS: Healthcare records were extracted on pregnant women without pre-existing diabetes who were screened for HIP between 2014 and 2015 at two West Sumatera hospitals. Screening consisted of a Fasting Blood Glucose (FGB) test grouping women into Diabetes In Pregnancy (DIP) (glucose levels >), Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) (92-125 mg/dl), or normal glucose levels (< 92 mg/dl); following the International Association of Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) reference. Effect estimates and 95% Confidence Interval were determined using general and generalized linear models. RESULTS: CONCLUSIONS: Maternal outcomes did not seem to differ between HIP and normal FBG Indonesian women. The observed decrease in neonatal deaths in GDM women compared to normal FBG women, while not replicated in DIP, may be a result of intensified monitoring and delivery assistance offered.
