Quality of life (QoL) is an important parameter for the assessment of the additional information of changes in health status and response to treatment. OBJECTIVES: to analyze the efficacy of the impact of Omalizumab on QoL of children with severe persistent uncontrolled asthma according to pediatric patient registry METHODS: data of 47 children (average age 13 [7;17] years, girls – 28%) with severe persistent uncontrolled asthma, receiving omalizumab in additional to basic therapy, were analyzed. The QoL was assessed by the Health Utilities Index Mark 3 Mark 2 (HUI3 HUI2) and the Standardised Paediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ(S)) at two points, with a difference in 6 mon. The results were compared. Depending on the duration of Omalizumab therapy, children were divided into 5 groups: 1st group – children who didn’t receive the monoclonal antibodies at the 1st point; in 2, 3, 4, 5-th groups the QoL assessment was analyzed on the Omalizumab treatment for different time. RESULTS: in children of the 1st group in 6 months, a statistically significant change in scores on the Health Utilities Index and PAQLQ(S) was noted: the multi-attribute indices HUI 2 and HUI 3 improved, respectively by 21.3% and 10.71% (p=0.041 and p=0.086) and PAQLQ(S) - by 31.3% (p=0.001). According to HUI2, a significant improvement in the "emotion" attribute was revealed which positively correlated with the overall indicator and the emotional indicator of PAQLQ(S) (r=0.450, p=0.0014 and r=0.385, p=0.0076, respectively) and with the activity indicator of PAQLQ(S) (r=0.341, p=0.0192). In the remaining groups, the indicators of the Health Utilities Index questionnaire and PAQLQ(S) didn’t change significantly. CONCLUSIONS: The received results indicate the possibility of using the patient registry such as a tool for monitoring and comprehensive assessment of the QoL in children with uncontrolled severe persistent asthma. Our results confirmed again the QoL is useful parameter.
