OBJECTIVES: To study and compare the commonly used pain rating scales and prescribing pattern of anesthetic and analgesics. METHODS: The observational comparative study was conducted by the department of surgery, RMMCH, Annamalai university for the period of 6 months (Nov 2017 – April 2018) on 340 subjects. The Required data’s (VAS, Drugs) were collected by counselling session and from case sheets. IBM SPSS software version 22 were used. RESULTS:
- There is no significant difference observed from pain ratting scales (VAS,NRS,VRS)by graphical analysis but Simplicity analysis showed maximum patients preference was ‘VAS’ (55%). Most of the surgeries were performed between the age group of 40-50, (21.17%) 72 and most observed gender was Male, 186 (54.70%) .Hospital stay analysis showed that Amputation has the maximum of 14 days stay. Mean VAS scores in mono-therapy analysis showed tramadol(1.82, 1.17) and diclofenac(1.84,) were greater followed by Pentazocine(2.0) and Paracetamol(2.61) on pain at all three group of patients, in dual therapy Paracetamol+Tramadol (1.61) were more effective in amputation, Pentazocine+diclofenac (1.38) were most effective in hernioplasty and Tramadol+Pentazocine (1.62) were in mastectomy. The pattern of analgesics states compliance (STG) about 83.3% and the Hifenac is a brand of diclofenac has the maximum cost reduction of 54.5 Rupees (82.42%) . The post-operative complications were listed 16(80%)patients t infection and 8(20%) patient with urinary retention. The ADR of Anesthesia was monitored by Naranjo scale and which the result states cough as most common ADR while used lignocaine 6(28.57%) and surgical standard observation showed the 9 (50.1%) highly useful.
