OBJECTIVES: Triple therapy is recommended for COPD patients based on severity Data regarding the use of triple therapy in real-world clinical practice are scarce. This study aimed to describe characteristics of incident COPD patients and assess initiation of triple therapy (LABA+LAMA+ICS) in Catalonia.

METHODS: Newly diagnosed COPD patients between 01/2011 - were included from the System for the Development of Research in Primary Care database in Catalonia Patients were stratified into phenotypes using data 12-months pre- diagnosis: Asthma-COPD overlap (ACO), frequent exacerbators, non-frequent exacerbators, non-exacerbators. Descriptive statistics were used. Time to triple therapy was described using Kaplan Meier curves.

RESULTS: , CONCLUSIONS: Over 16% of newly diagnosed COPD patients initiated triple therapy, with higher proportions observed among frequent exacerbators. Further evidence is required to determine the role of blood eosinophil count in treatment decisions.
