OBJECTIVES: Both diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are daily constraining long-term illness for patients as well as economic burdens for society, and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the first cause of renal replacement therapy. The French health technology agency (HAS) drew guidelines to improve their management in France. The aim of this study is to evaluate their compliance.

METHODS: RESULTS: CONCLUSIONS: The HAS recommendations are consistent with the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) guidelines and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) standards regarding the need to prescribe RAS blockers in the management of hypertension and the protection of renal function, yet a vast amount of hypertensive patients with DKD are not given one of them. The intake of metformin at a high dose when renal function is deteriorated puts patients at risk of serious side effects. This study shows the need for health authorities to not only draw guidelines, but also insure of the professionals compliance.
