OBJECTIVES: The aim of our study was to assess the knowledge of Hungarian adults on hospice-palliative care, and to get information about health care workers’ opinions on either institutional or home hospice care. We would also like to compare the two mentioned forms of health care.

METHODS: We carried out a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study between November 2017 and February 2018. 370 people filled out our questionnaire about knowledge on hospice (both online and printed versions), also 155 parents responded about knowledge on children’s hospice (online) and 47 nurses on comparing the two forms of hospice care (online). We calculated descriptive statistics, χtest and independent t-test using Microsoft Office Excel 2013.

RESULTS: CONCLUSIONS: People’s knowledge on hospice-palliative care is still deficient in this Hungarian sample, even in 2018. We emphasize the importance of better education and providing more information on this matter.
