OBJECTIVES: To determine the proportion and influenced factors related to the correct inhaler technique of patients in Betong Hospital, Yala, Thailand.

METHODS: This study was prospective observation and cross-sectional analysis study. The technique of inhaler were observed and checked process by observational checklist. The patients were been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma and admited in Betong Hospital between 1 June 2017 - 31 March 2018.

RESULTS: One hundred and forty eight patients were enrolled to the study. The four devices were Meter dose inhaler (MDI), Terbuhaler, Accuhaler and Handihaler that divide to 90, 37, 6 and 15 patients. respectively. The correct inhaler technique, in four devices were MDI, Turbuhaler, Accuhaler and Handihaler, were 82.22%, 83.78%, 83.33 and 100%, respectively. The influenced factors related to the correct inhaler technique were statistic significant. MDI was COPD patients. Terbuhaler, Accuhaler and Handihaler no influenced factors related to the correct inhaler technique.

CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of correct inhaler technique of patients in Betong hospital were 82.22%, 83.78%, 83.33 and 100% in MDI, Turbuhaler, Accuhaler and Handihaler device, respectively. The influenced factors related to the correct inhaler technique were COPD patients who used MDI divice.
