OBJECTIVES: Identify the pattern of resource use in patients with HCC in a public oncology hospital in Mexico

METHODS: A disease burden study was conducted in an oncology hospital in Mexico. The first line of treatment of HCC was analyzed, where the direct costs associated with the treatment were obtained by reviewing clinical charts, all active patients were included from January 2017 to December 2017

RESULTS: The average total cost for treating patients with active CHC from January 2017 to December 2018 (N = 10) was $56,222.55 USD, in which the cost per patient was $9,370.42 USD ($ 8,433.38 USD- $ 10,307.47 USD), this included costs for first-line pharmacological treatment $ 8,080.78 ($7,272.70 USD- $8,888.86) USD), clinical follow-up consultations by the multidisciplinary team of the hospital $70.08 USD ($ 63.07 USD- $ 77.08 USD), laboratory and cabinet studies $1,210.51 USD ($1,089.46 USD- $1,331.56 USD), hospitalizations per base pathology $9.06 USD ($8.16 USD-$9.97 USD), without having added costs due to adverse events.

CONCLUSIONS: The cost for pharmacological treatment to treat HCC has a significant economic impact on the use of resources, within the results presented here the total cost of treatment implied 86.2% of the resource used for the treatment of CHC per patient.
