OBJECTIVES: Suboptimal post fracture treatment was reported worldwide, however, study aim at improving the quality of care for these patients was limited. The aim of this research was to build up a protocol to improve the screening rate of bone mineral density (BMD) and anti-osteoporotic medications (AOMs) use, two critical quality indicators, for caring patients discharged from osteoporotic fractures. METHODS: This project were implemented in a tertiary hospital. A qualitative study was conducted to generate clinical practitioners’ (included orthopedics, nurses, radiology diagnostics technicians) opinions of the care process for post-fracture patients. We adopted the root cause analyses and decision matrix process to identify key and applicable quality indicators. To validate the quality indicators, patients who admit for major osteoporotic fractures (including hip, vertebral, proximal humerus, and distal forearm) in this hospital were included for further analyses
