OBJECTIVES: Current study was design to assess the health related quality of life of hospital admitted patients in tertiary care hospitals Quetta by using SF-12 questionnaire. METHODS: Cross sectional study was conducted from May to July 2015. All admitted patients in tertiary care hospitals Quetta were approached and 441 were agreed to participate in the study. Health related quality of life was by using SF-12 Urdu version. The SF-12 summary scores were derived using the standard US Norms. The descriptive statistics was used to present the demographic and disease related information. Inferential statistics was used to the evaluation relationship among study variables. All analyses were performed using SPSS 20.0. RESULTS:

Result highlights that the study patients were mostly male (n=327, 74.1%). The questioned subjects were grouped into various age groups and majority (n=86, 19.5%) of respondents were belongs to 21-30 years. Marital status result showed there were (n=353, 80.0%) married. More than half of respondents (n=225, 51.3%) were from urban locality. The ethnicity result showed majority of respondents (n=265, 60.1%) were Pashtoon. Majority of respondents (n=303, 68.7%) were uneducated. Mostly respondents (n=114, 25.9%) were self-employee. The monthly income result showed that majority of respondents (n=194, 44.0%) have no monthly income. Majority of patients (n=282, 63.9%) patients were having acute disease. The mean SF score was 40.38 however mean PCS score was found to be 36.14 and MCS overall mean score is 44.30.  CONCLUSIONS:

The findings showed that hospital admitted patients were having poor quality of life, the physical health status is lower than the psychological health status.
