AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY ON RISK FACTORS AND CLINICAL PRESENTATION S IN STROKE PATIENTS

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study focus on risk factors and clinical presentations in stroke patients. This research aims to find the area affected in the brain based on the clinical presentations of patient. METHODS: Prospective observational study, carried out for a period of nine months conducted within Rohini super speciality hospital from in-patient departments. RESULTS: In this study out of 155 patients, 84(54.19%) patients were having habit of drinking alcohol, 56(36.12%) patients are with hypertension. Based on imaging studies Left sided bleeding in the lobes-weakness of Right Upper and Lower Limbs 10(99.99%), Slurred speech is 6(60%), Aphasia, Giddiness, Vomiting, DOM, and Unable to walk is 3(30%). Left sided bleeding in the Capsulo-Ganglionic region -Weakness of Right U&L Limbs 12(99.99%), slurred speech 7(58.33), DOM 5 (41.66%), Loss of speech, LOC, Vomiting is 3 (25%). Left sided bleeding thalamus (Limbic System) - weakness of R.U&L Limbs, Slurred speech and Drooling of Saliva is 2(99.99%). Lentiform Nucleus bleed-weakness of R.U&L Limbs 4(99.99%), Slurred speech, DOM, Headache, and Loss of speech is 2(50%). Right sided bleeding in the Lobes (Cerebrum)-Weakness of L.L Limbs, DOM 8(99.99%), Slurred speech is 5(62.5%), Altered Sensorium, Giddiness, Tingling and Numbness and Drowsy is 4(50%). Right sided bleeding in the Capsulo-ganglionic region-weakness of L.U&L Limbs 4(99.99%), Slurred speech is 2(50%). Right sided bleeding in the Thalamus (Limbic System)-weakness of left U&L Limbs, Slurred speech is 4(99.99%). CONCLUSIONS: Stroke mainly occurs due to behavioural risk factors such as insufficient physical activity, increased intake of alcohol, increased tobacco consumption and biological factors include Hypertension, Diabetes, cardiac abnormalities, elevated lipid levels. Based on the clinical presentations in the stroke patient, area affected in the brain can be identified before imaging.
