A STUDY OF PRESCRIPTION PATTERN OF NON STEROIDAL ANII-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

OBJECTIVES: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are most commonly prescribed drugs. The present study was designed to evaluate the prescription pattern of NSAIDs and also to study the rational prescription METHODS: A prospective observational study was carried out in general medicine department of Rajive Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadapa for 6 months during July 2014 Jan 2015. Prescription containing NSAIDs were documented by using standard data collection form. RESULTS: totally 300 prescription was screened and 112 patients received NSAIDs. Most frequently prescribed NSAIDs were diclofenac (35%), Nimusulide (12%), aceclofenac (8%), ibuprofen and paracetamol combination (5%), and other combination (40%). CONCLUSIONS: the prescription pattern was in accordance with standard guidelines, as suggested by the fact that the DU90% segment was constituted by most drugs.
