OBJECTIVES:: Currently the time to achieve post-dialysis dry weight is uncertain, the present study was conducted with the aim to determine the time at which the majority patients achieve post-dialysis dry weight using body composition monitor (BCM). METHODS:: A total of 140 hemodialysis (HD) patients were prospectively assessed for fluid overload using the Fresenius BCM. BCM readings were taken at 30 and 45 minutes post dialysis. RESULTS:: Among the 140 patients included in the current study, 65 patients (46.4%) achieved euvolemic state at 30 minutes and 28 (20%) achieved it on 45 minutes of BCM procedure. 47 patients (33.5%) did not achieve euvolemic state. In multivariate analysis, vascular access other than arteriovenous fistula (AVF) (OR=0.258, p-value= 0.003), cardiovascular disease (OR= 0.314, p-value= 0.016) had statistically significant negative association with achieving euvolemic state at 30 minutes of BCM procedure. CONCLUSIONS:: The cumulative percentage of euvolumic patients increased from 46.4% to 66.4% when assessed at 45 minutes postdialysis. Assessing patient’s hydration status at 45 minutes postdialysis is therefore suggested.
