OBJECTIVES: To determine socioeconomic and clinical characteristics affecting health-related quality of life (QOL) in patients with psoriasis METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted between March-June 2015 using data obtained via an Internet-based survey from a psoriasis patients group in Korea The surveyinstrument included questions regarding demographic, socioeconomic, and clinical characteristics as well as QOL Patients’ QOLimpairment was classified as severe if the dermatology life quality index scores were ≥11. Factors influencing the impairment were identifiedusing multivariable logistic regressionanalysis RESULTS: Of the exhibited severe QOL impairmentPatients’ dermatology life quality index scoreswere significantly influenced by gender; annual income; neck psoriasis; psoriasis-relatedresignation from work; and use of oral and herbal medications QOL in women was two times moresignificantly impaired than that of men (odds ratio(OR)=, confidence interval(CI):–). Patients who had psoriasis on the neck had significantly impaired their QOL compared to those who had psoriasis on other areas of their bodies (OR=, 95%CI:–). In regards to socioeconomic status, patients who earned > million KRW (approximately 34,000 USD; high-income group)showed less impairment in their QOL than those who earned less (OR=, CI:–)Patients who had severe QOL impairment used oral (OR=, –) or herbal(OR=, –) medications more often than patients whose QOL impairment was less severeCONCLUSIONS: QOL in patients with psoriasis was significantly associated with demographic and socioeconomic characteristics and working statusThe presence of psoriasis on exposed areas may exert a significant effect on patients’ QOL and working statusIt is recommended that a study evaluating the impact of psoriasis on patient productivity be performed in the future.
