WILLINGNESS TO DONATE BLOOD AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AND THE ROLE OF THE NATIONAL BLOOD DONATION COMPETITION IN ZALA COUNTY, HUNGARY

OBJECTIVES: We assessed Hungarian undergraduates’ habits of blood donation, their main motivation factors, knowledge of the process, and popularity of the Hungarian National Blood Donation Competition (NBDC). METHODS: We carried out a quantitative, cross-sectional survey with non-probability accessibiliy sampling among undergraduates in all five universities of Zala county, Hungary (N=250). Our a self-made questionnaire contained socio-demographic data, motivation factors on a 5 point Likert-scale and knowledge with a 21-point test. Students who can’t be a donor due to medical conditions were excluded (n=31). For data analysis we used descriptive statistics, paired T-test and one-way ANOVA (p<0,05). SPSS 22.0 was used for calculation. RESULTS:
