PURPOSE: This workshop focuses on the growing importance of patient engagement in drug development and effectively incorporating patient-centered data into strategy planning. Assessing patient-centered, real-world outcomes and comparative effectiveness is a key element for effective access strategies. Commercial value pricing and R&D health economic teams continue working together for achieving patient access to health care products and services in the global marketplace. Workshop participants will learn methods for eliciting and summarizing qualitative and quantitative patient-centric, comparative effectiveness and outcomes data. DESCRIPTION: Examples of shared decision-making research and the impact of these analyses on value demonstration, pricing and patient market access will be discussed. Analyses will be described both qualitatively and quantitatively. The workshop will review: a) the most important patient-centered data and outcomes; b) how to use these data to support US patient-centered mandates; and, c) decision-making analyses to support market access. Dr. Kline and Freeman will describe patient-centered research, including comparative effectiveness and real-world patient-centered outcomes studies. Dr. Freeman will also discuss optimizing patient-centered data for informing drug development. Mr. Hunt will detail the utilization of these data in value-based qualitative and quantitative pricing analyses. Audience participation includes a survey of perspectives on patient-centered research design, value-based pricing, choice decision analysis, and the importance of including these key variables in access strategies.
