MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING AS A STRATEGY FOR SMOKING CESSATION AMONG ADOLESCENTS-A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW Poudel N, Kavookjian J Harrison School of Pharmacy, Auburn University, Auburn, AL, USA OBJECTIVES: Most adult smokers began smoking in adolescence; primary prevention through youth-targeted smoking cessation interventions is needed. Motivational Interviewing(MI) has impacted adult smoking cessation; little is known about MI impact on adolescents. This objective was to systematically review evidence and gaps in the literature for MI as a smoking cessation intervention in adolescents. METHODS: A modified Cochrane method was used for search and review of literature reporting MI intervention impact on outcomes (behavioral, psycho/social, clinical, humanistic, and/or economic) in cigarette-smoking adolescents (aged 13-20). Inclusion criteria: RCTs published in English from 01/1990-12/2017. Databases searched: MEDLINE, CINAHL, Academic Search Premier, Cochrane Collaborative Systematic Reviews, PsycINFO, Nursing/Academic Edition, Web of Science, and Wiley Online Library. Search terms: (Motivational Interviewing OR Motivational Interview*) AND Smoking Cessation OR ((quit* OR stop*) AND (Smoking OR tobacco OR nicotine OR cigarette)) AND (Adolescen* OR Teen* OR Youth*)
