OBJECTIVES

To assess the disease burden, diagnosis, quality of life, treatment patterns and unmet needs of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).

METHODS

Data between April 2017 and October 2017 were downloaded through Sales Force Social Studio using MeSH terms based on predefined search criteria. Twitter, Blogs, News and Forums were evaluated to identify discussion themes, stakeholders and sentiments in discussions specific to nAMD. After data anonymization, text algorithms and manual categorization were used to analyze and map psychological aspects expressed by stakeholders.

RESULTS CONCLUSIONS

Low volume of patient discussions on disease understanding necessitates the need for improved availability of disease and treatment information to increase awareness about nAMD in social domains. Delayed diagnosis and the frequency of intravitreal anti-VEGF injections also emerged as key unmet needs.
