OBJECTIVES

Evidence on health utility of stroke patients at intensive care units is very limited but would be useful as an input parameter for modelling cost-effectiveness of cardiovascular prevention and care. This study aims to provide evidence on health utility of such patients at different time points after hospital admission.

METHODS

Stroke patients admitted into Thai Nguyen National Hospital who were able to respond in an interview were invited to participate in a survey using EQ-5D. Health utility was estimated by applying a previously published algorithm. Patients were interviewed at two time points: the 5th day after first occurrence of symptoms, and on the day of hospital discharge. Patients with both cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage were excluded.
