OBJECTIVES: Patients satisfaction is a benchmark to measure healthcare users expectations and satisfactions with services accessed in hospitals. It is an essential aspect of continuous quality improvement. This study evaluated patients satisfaction with healthcare providers services in a tertiary health facility from patients perspective

Out of 255 outpatients who visited the hospital within the period and gave their informed consent were systematically sampled and recruited for the study. A validated structured questionnaire covering patients’ demographics, registration and waiting time, satisfaction with hospital environment and sanitation, services of healthcare givers, facilities, and cost of treatment. Data were analyzed for descriptive and inferential statistics. A P-value of <0.05 was considered significant. The study lasted from February to October 2017.

RESULTS: Of the 255ambulatory respondents surveyed, 215.0 (85.3%) were satisfied with registration formalities and reception at the departments and units visited. Those satisfied with the patients waiting areas at the respective departments were 196.0 (78.0%), while 102.0 (40.8%) were dissatisfied with the general sanitation/cleanliness of the facility. Patients response on satisfaction to nursing services was 266.0 (90.1%), physicians services and care 237.0 (94.5%), and pharmaceutical services 202.0 (59.3%). X=125.73, P=

CONCLUSIONS: Poor environmental sanitation in hospitals could be a limitation to patients’ perception of healthcare services, and can compromise patients perspective of quality of care irrespective of the quality of other services rendered. Improvement on the general hospital layout and cleanliness is essential to improving patients’ satisfaction and encouraging repeated visits.
