OBJECTIVES: Patients with urinary incontinency use one or several absorbent medical devices for urinary incontinency (MDUI). The number of used types depends on the seriousness of urinary incontinence. Nowadays producers offer extensive range of absorbent MDUI and their usage improves patients quality of life. Due to the wide range of MDUI, there arose the interest which type of medical device provides patients the highest satisfaction and consequently significantly improves the patients quality of life. METHODS:  The data on selected characteristics of patient satisfaction with MDUI on a group of 154 patients were obtained through self-reported technique of a questionnaire survey during November - December 2015 at community pharmacy and the retirement house in Puchov, Slovak Republic. Using a 4-point Likert scale (from 1-very satisfied, to 4-very dissatisfied) patients expressed their satisfaction with specific characteristics of MDUI such as weight, fit, appearance, comfort, pain free, free of abrasiveness, ease of application, durability and others. To process the data it was used the basic and advanced statistic functions by Microsoft Excel. RESULTS: The total patients satisfaction with absorbent MDUI on selected specific characteristic reached medium satisfaction (score 2.12). Of 5 types MDUI patients expressed the high satisfaction (from 1 to 2) with inserts (score=1.99). Medium satisfaction expressed with diaper pants (score=2.07), fixation panties (score=2.10) and absorbent pads (score 2.11). The lowest satisfaction patients revealed with diapers (score 2.33). CONCLUSIONS:  It is necessary to have an extensive range of absorbent MDUI. To select the appropriate type of MDUI the appropriate cooperation of doctor, pharmacist, nurse and others is necessary. Any kind of evaluated absorption MDUI did not show a definite advantage, and thus cannot be universally recommended any of them. We can say that the combination of the different absorption MDUI will need to be available for patients with urinary incontinency.
