OBJECTIVES:  The importance of antenatal care (ANC) in improving the maternal and perinatal health has been emphasized a lot by health agencies such as World Health Organization (WHO). Regular ANC gives an opportunity to the expectant mother and her family to understand the potential symptoms and complications that can occur during the course of pregnancy. Due to lack of awareness and resources, millions of perinatal deaths occur every year with the majority occurring in developing countries where millions of infants are born. The objective of this study was to assess the relationship of regular ANC with health facility delivery in 10 countries classified under South-East Asian region as per WHO. METHODS:  Latest available data related to percentage of atleast 4 ANC visits and percentage of births attended by skilled health personnel were assessed and collected for 10 South-East Asian region countries (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Korea Republic, Maldives and Thailand) from WHO data repository. Regression analysis and correlation analysis were performed on the dataset to identify the association between the two variables. RESULTS:  Analysis based on Pearson bivariate correlation coefficient and regression line demonstrated a positive association of regular ANC with health facility delivery (r = 0.8925 and r=.7967). The analysis shows that the women who attended regular ANC with 4 or more visits were more likely to deliver in a health facility (attended by skilled health personnel). CONCLUSIONS:  Based on results of the analysis, it can be concluded that there is a positive relation between the two. Hence, it is important to increase the coverage of regular ANC visits to increase the health facility delivery (attended by skilled health personnel).
