OBJECTIVES:  Quality-of life (QoL) impacts the prognosis of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and can guide individualized treatment decisions. To develop a new MDS-specific core outcome set (COS) that integrates QoL, we provide a systematic overview of QoL measurement instruments (QoL-MI) and patient-relevant outcomes applied in MDS to date. METHODS: We performed a comprehensive systematic literature search (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, last updated 01/16) to identify studies applying QoL-MI in MDS patients. In a second review, we searched for studies evaluating MDS patient-relevant outcomes registered from 2012-2016 in the ClinicalTrials.gov database and four clinical trial registries (ISRCTN, ICTRP, EU-CTR, NCI) for the development of the new COS. All studies were screened by at least two independent reviewers (IS/UR/HB/MJ).
