OBJECTIVES: The decreasing work ability of healthcare workers is highly connected and caused by tight pace of work, overwork, shift working and the lack of financial and moral recognition. This study aims to examine the measure and connection between work ability and stress, sleep quality, and need for recovery, sociodemographic factors and issues relating to the workplace. METHODS: A quantitative, cross-sectional survey was carried out among nurses and healthcare assistants who are working for at least one year in outpatient clinic or in hospital at Szeged by convenience, non-random sampling (n=178). The data was collected with a questionnaire including the following topics: sociodemographic data, issues relating to the workplace and health condition. Besides these questions, validated questionnaires are: Work Ability Index, Perceived Stress Scale, Groningen Sleep Quality Scale and Need For Recovery Scale. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test, χ-test, correlation, linear regression and ANOVA were used with 95% probability level (p<0.05). SPSS version 20.0 program was applied for data analysis. RESULTS:
