HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT DECISIONS FOR NOVEL PSORIASIS AND PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS AGENTS- RESULTS, RATIONALE, AND TRENDS

OBJECTIVES: With the recent approval of several novel injectable agents, and a large number of assets in the drug development pipeline, psoriatic disease (encompassing psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis) therapies are becoming an important cost driver for insurers. Health technology assessments (HTAs) aim to produce policies that evaluate clinical benefit alongside increased expense, resulting in access to cost-effective psoriatic disease therapies. The objective of this analysis was to evaluate recent HTA decisions and their rationale to identify trends in selected countries. METHODS: HTA surveillance was conducted for Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom (UK) from January 1, 2012 to May 31, 2016 (53 months). HTAs for psoriatic disease therapies were evaluated by therapeutic area, decision, and rationale for the decision. Decisions were categorized as favorable, unfavorable, and mixed (both favorable and unfavorable). RESULTS: CONCLUSIONS: As the psoriatic disease treatment landscape becomes more crowded, it is critical for HTA submissions to contain strong pharmacoeconomic evidence.
