OBJECTIVES:  EQ-5D is a generic instrument for measuring quality of life (QoL) and its use is encouraged for preparing cost-utility models for reimbursement submissions. However, the sensitivity of EQ-5D in capturing disease-specific QoL and its changes has been challenged. This study investigated the association between changes in asthma symptoms, severity, and disease-specific QoL in relation to changes in EQ-5D-3L in the DREAM study. METHODS:  DREAM (GSK/ClinicalTrials.gov identifier MEA112997/NCT01000506) was a 52-week randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of mepolizumab in severe eosinophilic asthma. EQ-5D-3L was administered at baseline and at 4-weekly intervals. In this post-hoc analysis, subjects were split into three groups based on change from baseline EQ-5D-3L utility index at end of study: no change, improvement, and worsening.
