OBJECTIVES : Based on the sampled data from medical institutions, this study analyzed the disease burden of Chinese early and late stage melanoma patients, and the medical cost of different age groups, genders, insurance types and its components, so as to provide references for disease management of melanoma.

METHODS : Using the data of melanoma patients collected from some medical institutions in China, this study conducted a descriptive analysis of the medical costs of patients with melanoma and the composition of various expenses.

RESULTS : The study included 239 patients with melanoma, and its average observation time was 0.42 years. According to the clinical data analysis of patients with melanoma, the average outpatient cost for all patients was 447.80(±512.19)RMB, the average hospitalization cost was 12952.75(±15040.04)RMB, Annual per capita cost was 80760.17(±107872.35)RMB; for the early patients ,the costs were 294.20(±442.99)RMB 11530.07(±16501.58)RMB and 47859.32(±66672.12)RMB respectively; for the late patients, the costs were 547.19(±530.45)RMB, 13924.18(±13908.80)RMB, 47859.32(±66672.12)RMB.

CONCLUSIONS : From the point of view of the average cost, the late patients with melanoma is generally higher than that of early patients. For the impact on the cost of hospitalization, the level of the medical institution selected by the patient is more influential than the patients’ stages-early or late; From the perspective of annual per capita expense, the male patients are slightly higher than female patients, medical insurance patients of urban workers are higher than urban residents, and the cost of patients aged 41-50 is higher than other age groups.
