ABSTRACT WITHDRAWN

OBJECTIVES

:
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic bacterial disease that affects vulnerable populations both rural and urban. Aim. To establish the burden of disease in terms of Disability Adjusted Life Years for Brazil and Colombia (2010 – 2016)

METHODS

:
Records of SISPRO (Sistema de Información de la Protección Social – Colombia) and SINAN (Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação - Brasil) were utilized. Prevalence and mortality (standardized rate per 100,000 people), Years of Life Lost (YLLs) from age and gender stratified mortality rates were estimated. Years of Life with Disability (YLDs) were developed from a simple disease model indicating likely sequelae. DALYs were estimated from the sum of YLLs and YLDs.

RESULTS

:
For seven years (2010-2016) a total of 6,772 and 28,312 cases and 169 and 2,410 death by leptospirosis occurred in Colombia and Brazil respectively. The prevalence and mortality rate were 14.4 and 14.1; 0.36 and 2.1 respectively. The prevalence was highest in male (ratio 3.4 and 3.7 in Colombia and Brazil). The burden of Leptospirosis disease was of 13,091.6 and 180,157.5 DALYs in Colombia and Brazil during the period. The mean od rates of DALYs per 100,000 people was 4.0(UI95% 3.0 - 4.1) and 14,7 (UI95% 9.5 – 19.8) respectively- The ratio of rates Brazil/Colombia was 3.7 (UI95% 3.1 – 4.0).

CONCLUSIONS

:
Leptospirosis a neglected tropical zoonotic disease imparts a significant health burden in Brazil and Colombia and is important for the health systems care in these countries.
