ABSTRACT WITHDRAWN

OBJECTIVES

:
The role of pharmacist-participated warfarin therapy management(PWTM) for nonvalvular atrial fibrillation is explored to provide evidence-based support for clinical pharmacists for making decisions regarding use, development of clinical pharmacy services, and as reference for reforming pharmacy service fees.

METHODS

:
Anticoagulation control cost, Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALY), incremental cost-effective ratio, and other indicators are compared using Markov model to evaluate the economics of Chinese patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation under the two anticoagulant treatment modes of clinical pharmacist intervention and usual care (UC). Univariate and probability sensitivity analyses are carried out to determine the stability of the model.

RESULTS

:
The total cost of the clinical pharmacist intervention group is lower than that of the conventional treatment group ($7215 vs $8925). The QALY gained by clinical pharmacist intervention group is higher than that of the conventional treatment group (16 QALY vs 14.3 QALY).

CONCLUSIONS

:
Clinical pharmacist intervention is significantly economical for warfarin anticoagulation in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and is, thus, worthy of promotion.
