OBJECTIVES: The objective of the study was to evaluate the degree of job satisfaction of doctors, nurses and administrators of the Arta General Hospital and to identify the factors affecting it.

METHODS: A cross sectional study was performed from February to March 2023. A questionnaire was prepared which was based on the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) questionnaire and other demographic factors such as gender, age, level of education, previous experience and salary.

The sample constituted by 92 employees of medical, nursing and administrative staff of the Arta General hospital in Greece. The 9 dimensions that were evaluated were Remuneration, Promotion, Supervisor, Benefits, Recognition-Rewards, Procedures, business collaborators-Colleagues, Nature of Work and Communication.

RESULTS: The 45.7%, of the sample was nursing staff and 33.7% counted more than 20 years of service. 40,2% of the sample received a monthly salary up to 1.000€ and 34.8% held a university degree. The results showed that the dimension of job satisfaction that received the highest score was the one related to the supervisor (M=4.70+1.20), followed by nature of the job (M=4.31+0.94) and then colleagues-co-workers (M=4.19+0.94). Satisfaction related to communication in the hospital ranged at moderate levels (M=3.10+1.0), while satisfaction with the dimension of promotions (M=2.82+0.89), hospital operating procedures (M=2.65+0.87) and recognition-rewards from the organization (M=2.46+1.09) were lower. The lowest scores in terms of satisfaction among the dimensions were obtained, the dimension of benefits (M=2.28+0.92) and the dimension of rewards (M=2.12+0.96). The level of overall job satisfaction was reflected at moderate levels (M=3.18+0.62). The most satisfied group was the group of working experience 0-2 years and the least satisfied was the group of more than 20 years working experience.

CONCLUSIONS: Satisfaction seems to be mainly derived from the supervisor, nature of work and personal relationships, while benefits and salary seem to be the main source of employee dissatisfaction.
