OBJECTIVES: to analyze the recommendations of British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) about the nail lacquers for treatment of onychomycosis and to assess whether Ukraine is provided with antifungal lacquers recommended by the dermatological organization. METHODS: analysis of guidelines of BAD for the management of onychomycosis, 2014; search for nail lacquers registered in Ukraine in 2020 was conducted using State register of drug products. RESULTS: Healthcare system in the UK is considered to be one of the most powerful throughout the world. BAD is the professional organization that works with the Department of Health, patient bodies and commissioners across the UK, advising on best practice and the provision of dermatology services across all service settings. The BAD guidelines state that antifungal nail lacquers can be used for superficial and distal onychomycosis. The guidelines indicate that amorolfine lacquer is fungicidal against C.albicans, T.mentagrophytes; it is applied to the affected nail after removal of the diseased areas of the nail. The lacquer has shown to be effective in around 50% of cases of distal onychomycosis and as a prophylactic treatment for recurrence of onychomycosis. Ciclopirox lacquer has activity mostly against T.rubrum, S.brevicaulis, Candida species. It is also recommended for patients in whom systemic therapy is condraindicated. However, cure rates for ciclopirox are usually lower. It was found that lacquers with these antifungal ingredients are registered in Ukraine: 5 – with amorolfine, 2 – with ciclopirox. The all lacquers are import, and most of them (5) were registered during the last two years. CONCLUSIONS: Nail antifungal lacquers with amorolfine and ciclopirox recommended by BAD guidelines are registered in Ukraine and their number is increasing. It can be concluded that patients with onychomycosis can be provided with appropriate topical treatments.
