Leisure Trends and Recreational Habits Among Undergraduate Students

OBJECTIVES : The topic of our research is the examination of leisure activities and recreational habits among college students. METHODS : The survey was conducted in a questionnaire format. The sample was provided by 234 full-time students in higher education, with passive student status being an exclusion criterion. The sampling procedure is purposeful, not random. Descriptive statistics, T-test and Chi-square test were used in the analysis (p <0.05). Leisure activities were examined on 5 levels of characteristics. RESULTS : Of the nine activities listed above, playing computer games was the only one that men always do more in their free time. We obtained significant results for 13 activities at different levels of the trait. Television watching: p (4)< 0.05; computer games: p (5)<0.01; p (4)< 0.01; p (3)< 0.01; p (2)< 0.01; p (1)< 0.01; fun, party with friends: p (5)< 0.05; p (1)< 0.05; sports, training: p (4)< 0.01; p (2)< 0.05; cooking, baking: p (4)< 0.01; p (1)< 0.01 and vocals, music, instrument: p (3)< 0.01. In terms of age, only six activities resulted in significant relationships at different levels of the trait. Internet: p (2)< 0.01; p (1)< 0.01; computer games: p (1)< 0.01; hiking, biking, tour: p (5)< 0.01 and sports, exercise: p (5)< 0.01; p (3)< 0.01. In terms of location, significant results were obtained for two activities. 39 of the students do not (2) spend their leisure time with cultural activities (p< 0.05) on an average day. CONCLUSIONS : In recent decades, there have been a number of changes in the lives of young people as a result, the range of leisure activities has changed. The students their lifestyles, cultural habits, values, attitudes are vastly different from each other social groups. As an expected result, we can get a clearer picture of students leisure activities and recreational habits.
